Unless you've been hiding under a rock for the past week, you've been hearing all about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in the news. I've tried a to write a blog post explaining what is going on with these mortgage giants but I get stuck since even describing the companies (are they public? private? somewhere in between?) is complicated. In addition, by the time I wrote something, it would be wrong and outdated according to the latest breaking news. That said, for anyone curious on the basics of the situation, NYMag.com wrote a tongue in cheek article giving some background in laymans terms.
