Last night I tried Bucks for the first time, a restaurant that prides itself on using seasonal fresh ingredients from the area (similar idea to Georgetown's Agraria in Washington Harbor, which I love). Despite "Fishing and Camping" in its name, Bucks is actually a very nice restaurant with sophisticated decor and good service. It has a limited menu, about 6 salads/starters and 6 entrees. I started with the gazpacho which was delicious and different from any other gazpacho I've ever tasted, it was not pureed but had diced tomatoes and corn. For my main dish I had the whole fish, a branzino which is similar to sea bass, and it was literally a "whole fish" bones and all! Once the waiter showed me how to eat it properly I was a happy camper! (bad joke). For dessert, the chocolate cake with freshly whipped cream was amazing. It's definitely a restaurant for more adventurous eaters (and certainly not for children), as you couldn't order a simple grilled chicken or pasta dish. Bucks is located next to Politics and Prose up Connecticut Avenue at Nebraska.
