From $2,700,000 to $1,250,000, This Loft is Now a Steal.

I blogged about this loft in the spring of 2009 after attending a party there and loving it. I did write, however, that if I were going to spend $2.7 million that I wouldn't want to live across from a Jumbo Slice! I saw on Urban Turf's tweet this morning that the price had dropped AGAIN and it's now at $1,250,000 which is a great deal for that much space. Opening Up a Great Loft For a Great Cause

Last Friday I attended an art exhibit at an Adams Morgan loft that is currently on the market. The listing broker, mortgage company and loft owner all teamed up to sponsor a wonderful evening with proceeds going to benefit Smyal (Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League) . All of the art featured was done by current students at the Corcoran. The space was so perfect for an art gallery/event space that it took a moment to realize that this was an actual residence. Now, if I had $2,750,000 I don't think I would choose to live across from JumboSlice...but the loft itself is very cool. Check out pictures here. I thought it was a very creative way to cross promote a charity, a listing, and local artists.

Cute Funky House for the Price of a Condo!

Check out this cute little house on Florida between 16th and 17th, a great neighborhood advertised as DuPont but closer to Adams Morgan and U Street. Priced at $598,000, it's a great condo alternative in move-in condition with 3 BR, 1.5 baths and a huge back deck. I love the exposed brick and those floors!

Best Brunch in DC- L'Enfant Cafe on 18th and U.

I went out for a long lazy brunch today at L'Enfant, and realized that I should probably give the place a review on here. I absolutely love it. I don't get to go to brunches all that often since real estate and open houses take up a lot of my weekend afternoons, but today I got up early and went before L'Enfant got crowded. The menu is very french; classic egg dishes (they have a different frittata and quiche of the day using seasonal ingredients), salads, sandwiches and crepes. Today I had the farm breakfast which included a hard boiled egg, ham, fruit, a croissant and some muesli with almonds and dried fruits. I've also tried the quiches, frittatas, smoked salmon bagel, and sweet crepes; all were delicious. The waiters are all so funny and sarcastic too; when I declined a bloody or mimosa and just ordered tea I got an eye roll and a "ok. laaaaame, whatever." Every table gets a huge bottle of water which is great when one needs to recover a bit from Saturday night!

Tennis anyone?

Warm weather gives Washington area residents so many options for free outdoor activities. One I like to take advantage of is tennis. There are so many well kept public courts around, there is no need to join a private tennis club. Restaurant Review- Tabaq

Last night I tried Tabaq on 13th and U for the first time. Its a turkish/middle eastern restaurant with mostly tapas and a few main courses. I like the atmosphere there, its got more style than a bar but without feeling too pretentious or loungey (is that a word?). The heat in DC finally got down to a nice temperature so it was a perfect night to dine on the roof terrace. We were seated right away and I had a nice vantage point to people watch as well as see the view of the city. I know the owner of Tabaq from my days as an ID-less college student drinking overpriced apple-martinis (to look sophisticated, obviously) at his former place Meze, on 18th Street in Adams Morgan. Meze now has different owners and still serving over-priced drinks, last I checked. He was very attentive to us throughout the entire evening, making sure the waiter was bringing everything out on time, and eager to re-fill drinks! The highlight of my meal was the bread and dipping sauce that was sort of a very soupy olive-oily pesto, delicious. I also chose from a few tapas, a salad with a tangy pomegranate dressing, babaganoush, and spinach cigar borak served with a tomato salsa/sauce which complemented the feta cheese and made the dish much more flavorful. Don't let the pomegranate dressing turn you off, they don't try to do anything too crazy to the traditional dishes. I like that simplicity in this age of cuisine fusion and a constant need for innovation. Well made dishes in a good atmosphere, works for me!
