Every time I visit my hometown of Chicago, it makes me so grateful for DC's metro system. Whenever I take the "L" (Chicago's elevated trains) somewhere, I always get lost and wind up in a taxi! In Chicago, you not only need the name of a stop, you need the color of the line, and some lines only run at rush hour, and they have different closing times, its really not user friendly. It made me very grateful for DC's metro, which is easy, efficient and clean. And with the price of gas creeping up daily I will be taking greater advantage of this great amenity.
I often visit the website http://www.metroopensdoors.com/ and use the "trip planner" option to figure out how to get somewhere using public transportation. All Washington area residents should have this site bookmarked!
