Many people do their charitable contributions in December, before a new tax year begins. As this is also the Holiday season, I know many of us are overwhelmed in general, but also by the number of organizations who are in need of our resources. Especially with the recent economic downturn, I think people are looking for ways to give with the greatest impact. One way to make a LASTING effect on the lives of those in poverty is to contribute money for a micro finance loan. Opportunity International, a longstanding micro finance non profit I am involved in, has a wonderful new website www.OptInNow.org that allows anyone, for a small cost of $25, to become a lender to an entrepreneur of your choosing. When you donate to Opportunity, your loan is given to the first member of a "trust group" and when that loan is paid back (with interest) it is "recycled" and given to another entrepreneur. Whether you like it or not, just by making one contribution to the loan of one man or woman living in poverty, you become an Opportunity International doner for life.
