Restaurant Review- Charlie Palmer Steak

This week I got a chance to check out Charlie Palmer at 101 Constitution Ave. I had been to a fundraiser on their rooftop which has a spectacular view, but had never tried their food. The view from our table was almost as great as being up on a rooftop, we had a straight shot view of the Capitol. The sommelier recommended delicious wine and the food was fantastic. We ordered the shellfish platter to share and I had some lobster which was good but a little tough, I am not an oyster fan but those went very quickly so I assume they were delicious. Their 7 vegetable salad was great and I felt a little better about indulging in the rest of my meal, since I had at least just eaten SEVEN vegetables! I was the only one who decided on seafood rather than steak because the sea bass just sounded so good (and it was) and for sides we chose the hen of the woods mushrooms, the gnocchi, and the creamed spinach. Of those, the creamed spinach was a disappointing, the mushrooms were great and the gnocchi was divine. Now, onto the desserts; creme brulee trio, fruit cobbler, and a chocolate peanut butter something. The chocolate-peanut butter gets my vote for favorite dessert in DC. I don't know what is in it and after the recent peanut butter debacle it took some bravery, but it was worth every salmonella laced bite (just kidding, I'm sure the peanut butter is fine by now). Charlie Palmers is everything a fancy steakhouse should be; Delicious less than healthy food in a glamorous setting with lots of wine!
